Mahora Primary School Opening 9 May 2014

Today was the big official opening of the Mahora Primary School’s bike track project. It all came together after eighteen months of hard work by the school and with great funding support from many local community groups.

After some short speeches and the presentation of lovely thank you gifts and student drawings, the ribbon was cut and the students (and some funders) got to ride the new bikes on the different bike tracks.

In addition to the three bike tracks, the fifty bikes and the 350 helmets, the school also has also put in place a converted forty foot shipping container to store all their bikes in.

Tongariro School Opening 4 April 2014

Today was the official opening of the bike track at Tongariro School in Turangi.  This project which caters for all the children from year 1 through to year 13 was made possible thanks to a lot of hard work by school staff and Bike Taupo. The project received funding from the Local Community Board and Toi Te Ora Public Health Service.

The weather was perfect and after some very sincere (and funny) speeches the track was blessed and the students got to ride their new bike track for the very first time. It was good to see a number of teachers also riding the track.

Along with the track the school has a fleet of new bikes, a set of helmets and a excellent bike storage shed.

Ruakaka Primary School Opening 14 March 2014

Today was the official opening of the Ruakaka Primary School Bike Track. This day was the result of a lot of work by many different people and community organisations and local businesses. Special thanks to everyone at Ruakaka Primary School and also Bike Northland for making it all happen so quickly and smoothly.

After the speeches and some very special and beautiful singing by the students, as well as a blessing of the track, the the ribbon was cut and the children got to ride their own very special bike track.  

Along with the track the school has a large fleet of new bikes and helmets for all the students to use. They will also be getting some cycle skills training. 

Putaruru Primary School Opening 11 March 2014

Today was the official opening of the Pataruru Primary School and Community Bike Track. This exciting project was made possible thanks to a lot of hard work by Sport Waikato, Putaruru Primary School and many local businesses and community organisations.
After some lovely speeches and beautiful singing by the students, the ribbon was cut and the children got to ride their new 1km track.

Titahi Bay Primary School Bike Track Opening 26 February 2014

The weather was perfect for the exciting opening of the new bike track at Titahi Bay Primary school. Thanks to a lot of hard work by the school and a dedicated group of parents the students have a wonderful riding track around their school field.

After some lovely speeches and songs, the ribbon was cut and the first group of riders were off.

A huge number of children already bring their bikes to school most days!

Kaikohe East School Opening 7 November 2013

Today Kaikohe East School in beautiful Northland had their official bike track opening.

Thanks to a lot of hard work by the school and their staff, as well as the generous support of local funders, the 240 students now have a wonderful fun school bike track to ride their 60 bikes around.

After the ribbon was cut, local resident and former Olympic and Commonwealth cyclist Laurie Byers led the children around the first lap of the track.

Bridge Pa School Hastings Opening 6 November 2013

Today Bridge Pa School in the sunny Hawke’s Bay had their official bike track opening. The weather was perfect, the crowd were very excited and a good time was had by all.

James Street School Whakatane Opening 21 May 2013

The local radio station 1XX was on hand to record the exciting opening of the new bike tracks at James Street School. After some speeches and then the beautiful singing of the school song, the children provided a great demonstration of their bike riding skills. There are some very bike riders at this school. Cycle Action Whakatane managed the project with wonderful support from some local groups and organisations. .

Onepoto Primary School Opening 12 April 2013

Bikes in Schools is all go at Onepoto Primary School in Northcote, Auckland. The tracks, named Te Ara Tika (The Right Path) include a 550m loop track around the school, a skills track with eight ‘challenges’, and a pump track. There is also plenty of bikes and helmets for everyone. It was a perfect opening event with lots of entertainment for the many guests that attended. The project was managed by Harbour Sport and made possible thanks to a lot of hard work and financial support from many different local groups. Again Auckland Transport have been providing wonderful support with Cycle Skill Training for all the children and teachers!
