Today Peterhead School in Flaxmere Hastings opened their Bikes in Schools. The students love their new bikes and tracks. The weather was perfect with a large crowd. There were also some local sports riders there to give some riding tips.
The official opening of Bikes in Schools was a great day for all the children, teachers, parents, and guests that attended.
It was great to have Sarah Walker, the double world BMX champion, attend and also ride the different bike tracks. The PM John Key had a great time also. He even got on a bike and rode around the 550m bike track. It was great that he choose St Marys School to this for the first time ever.

This is the area of land (32m X 7.5m) we started with. It was unused since an old playground was taken out.
Now that we have our very own Bike On blog we’ll be adding pictures and video from the beginning of the journey, when Paul (McArdle) had the idea to get more kids cycling.
We’ll show you how we built the Limestone Track, the Pump Track, and the Skills Area with the help of The Kennet Brothers and many other helpers.
