It was great to have the Warriors league players attend the opening of the new bike track at East Tamaki School in Auckland. The Bikes in Schools project was made possible thanks to a lot of hard work and support from many groups including the Glenn Family Foundation, East Tamaki Rotary, Variety – the Children’s Charity, the Stevenson Foundation, and Counties Manukau Sport. The school now has 50 bikes, 325 helmets and a great riding track. All the children will be receiving cycle skills training thanks to the support of Auckland Transport.
KKM School Wairoa Opening on 29 October 2012
Today Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Ngati Kahungunu o Te Wairoa had their official bike track opening. There was a wonderful welcome followed by lovely speeches. The ribbon was cut and the students (and adults) were off riding around the three new tracks. Again many thanks to the good people from Kahungunu Hikoi Whenua at the Hawke’s Bay DHB for fully funding this Bikes in Schools implementation. This part of their ongoing work to build healthy communities
Flaxmere Primary School Opening 17 August 2012
Today Flaxmere Primary School had their official bike track opening. The weather was perfect, the crowd was large and a good time was had by all. As well as the 430 students and staff, there were many guests including Hawke’s Bay DHB, local politicians, sports officials and even three local rugby stars. Bikes in Schools at Flaxmere Primary School has been fully funded by the good people at Hawke’s Bay DHB as part of their efforts to build healthy communities.
Apanui School Whakatane Opening 27 July 2012
Thanks to a lot of hard work by Cycle Action Whakatane and Apanui School, Bikes in Schools was officially opened today. The students got to ride their 60 new bikes on their school bike tracks. They also have a excellent new bike storage shed. The project received great support from local groups and businesses included the BOP Regional Council.

Riverslea School students and staff put on a beautiful welcome this morning to visitors attending the official opening of their bike tracks. Principal Maurice Rehu, the driving force behind the success of this initiative at Riverslea School gave an inspirational speech in which he thanked the funders, Riverslea Community Trust, Eastern and Central Community Trust and Havelock North Rotary.
